Most foods need to be cooked before consumed. The way you cook your food determines the nutritional and palatable qualities of the final product. With the exception of canned food most preserved food needs some type of cooking before you can eat it. Dehydrated food needs to be soaked in water to rehydrate and then cooked. Some freeze dried food is pre-cooked but still needs rehydrating. Frozen food may be preserved cooked but needs heating. I like to make up packets of my own meals ready to eat. I also put dehydrated potato slices, milk powder, and cheese powder in a vacuum sealed bag ready to add water and cook for potatoes au gratin. Be creative and practice cooking survival food now so you will know how to when you need it. Develop dishes you like to eat everyday and preserve them to be part of your preps.
